Second crane collapse in New York - VIDEO

By Colin Sowman

There has been a second tower crane collapse in New York in as many months. A crane on the Upper East Side appears to have fallen onto the street, hitting a building as it fell

The New York Times is reporting that the crane toppled over and crashed into another building at East 91st Street and First Avenue on the Upper East Side of Manhattan around 8am local time (around 1pm in the UK).

It said at least two people were pulled from the wreckage but it is unclear whether anyone had been killed.

New York 1 news reported that the building under construction was the Azure, a 34-story high-rise at 333 East 91st Street. The crane apparently crashed into a white-brick apartment building at 1749 First Avenue.

This incident has occurred two months after a tower crane collapsed killing seven people. Following that incident the city’s buildings commissioner was forced out of her job and there was an extensive review of the city’s cranes.

CNN is reporting that two people had been trapped and are being recovered.
