EDF moves into UK with Notts power station

A first venture into contracting in this country by the French EDF group at the £600m gas-fired West Burton power station is being seen as a possible trial run for future bids to secure work on the expanding UK nuclear build programme.

EDF is managing contractor at West Burton, where mechanical work is due to start next March with a 27-month programme involving a 1,000-strong workforce.

Although the group supplies energy and owns plant in this country, the Notts job is said to represent the first time it has acted as a UK managing contractor.
