GSH Group is stepping up its intake of heating and ventilation, service and maintenance engineers.
The group currently employs 65 apprentices.
GSH’s move is aimed at alleviating the skills crisis by upping its level of in-house training.
Apprentices at GSH work towards achieving an NVQ Level 2 in Heating and Ventilation Maintenance of System Components, allowing them to gain exposure to a range of building services, from heating through to controls.
The two-year scheme combines classroom and on-the-job training.
As the majority of the workforce is mobile, apprentices are encouraged to get a driving licence, and hence are offered the incentive of free driving lessons and tests.
Once armed with an NVQ Level 2, GSH offers the individuals full-time, permanent positions.
GSH will offer advanced apprenticeship to five of the top performing individuals. Those working towards the NVQ Level 3 are on track for a supervisory level qualification.
