SMEs have won more than two thirds (70%) of the £2bn-worth of Olympic contracts awarded so far, the Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) has revealed.
Of that 70% around 98% of the firms are UK-based, according to the London 2012 business engagement figures.
Meanwhile the ODA indicated that nearly 90% of the 18,000 companies registered on its 'dating agency' database, which aims to match businesses with London 2012 opportunities, were SMEs.
ODA chairman John Armitt said: "These figures show that smaller businesses are making the running and getting the biggest benefit so far, as well as getting themselves in pole position to compete for future work in the supply chains of our major contractors."
