Wilson Bowden shelves construction work on Admiral's Quay project

Wilson Bowden has shelved future construction work on its Admiral’s Quay mixed-use project in Southampton.

The company, which is now undergoing a review of what to do with the project, was due to start work on phase two of the scheme. The whole scheme was due to complete this year.

However Wilson Bowden has now decided to look at the option of selling the land, which has planning permission, through estate agent Savills.

Phase one of the 200-apartment and retail project in the Ocean Village area of the city has already been completed, with only five apartments left to sell.

Wilson Bowden said the decision not to proceed with construction work on phase two of the scheme - the construction of two apartment blocks and retail units - was not part of a company-wide strategy to review all its projects, but was based on a site-by-site assessment.

The firm has now notified its supply chain of the decision.

In a statement the company said: “We are currently reviewing our options with regard to the future phase of the Admiral Quay development. One such possible option we are looking to explore further is the sale of the site. In this regard we have appointed Savills to establish the current level of demand for an opportunity of this nature.”
