Costain scoops £90m M25 tunnel contract

Costain has scooped a £90.4m contract to refurbish the Bell Common Tunnel on the M25 near Epping.

The scheme includes the replacement of mechanical and electrical equipment and installation of new fire safety equipment.

Work is due to start in autumn 2008 and be completed by December 2009.

CJ reported Costain was up against a Balfour Beatty/Skanska for the project, which concerns a tunnel between junctions 26 and 27.

Costain may have to work 24/7 to complete the project to the short deadline.
