A former Bovis Lend Lease engineer has been appointed chief executive of the Highways Agency.

Graham Dalton will take over the post from Archie Robertson on 30 June.

He is currently overseeing projects including Thameslink, the West Coast Route modernisation and Channel Tunnel Rail Link as a project director in the Department for Transport.

For six years until 2001 he worked for Bovis Lend Lease Consulting.

Mr Dalton said: “I am delighted to take on the leadership of the Highways Agency. Millions of people rely on the Agency's road network every day, for personal and business travel and for moving freight,” he said.

“In recent years, the Agency has introduced a number of innovations to improve its service to customers, and help protect our environment. I look forward to working with both staff and stakeholders to make yet more progress on both.”
