Any expansion of Heathrow Airport would be blocked under a Tory administration, reports the Guardian newspaper today.
In his first big environment speech of the year, Conservative leader David Cameron called on the government to make Heathrow “better, not bigger”.
Cameron also criticised prime minister Gordon Brown of “pig-headedly pursuing a third runway [at Heathrow] just to try and prove a political point”.
He added that his objections to any Heathrow expansion were not just environmental, arguing that there were issues over the economic value of a massive increase in passenger numbers.
