Labour MP Austin Mitchell is calling for hundreds of kilometres of kerb drainage systems across Britain's highways to be replaced if a Highways Agency (HA) investigation finds the products do not meet the required standards.
Mitchell's call follows news that the HA is carrying out an investigation into kerb drainage systems fitted on its roads (CJ 4 June). The investigation was triggered by complaints from a number of UK manufacturers and suppliers that some kerb drainage products do not meet HA specifications.
Mitchell has now written to the HA expressing his concerns following a meeting with a kerb drainage manufacturer in his constituency.
The HA said it was investigating the claims.
