Fire authorities fear arson was behind a massive fire that destroyed a block of flats under construction in Glasgow early this morning.
Crews from Pollok Fire Station were called to the blaze in Hopeman Avenue in the Arden area at 12.30am.
Residents were told to stay inside after wind drove a smoke cloud towards their homes.
A spokesman from Strathclyde Fire and Rescue said the flats were “well alight” when crews arrived.
He said the building had been gutted and the fire was being considered as suspicious.
Strathclyde Police said the construction site was yet to be made safe so that forensic officers could determine the cause of the fire.
“It is too early to say the fire is suspicious,” a police spokeswoman said.
It is the third construction site fire in Scotland in as many months. In April a blaze destroyed flats under construction in Edinburgh's Albion Gardens area.
Then in May flats in the city's Waterfront Gait were destroyed by fire.
