BRE plans Scottish innovation park

Building Research Establishment (BRE) is planning a second innovation park with four new show homes in North Lanarkshire.

The project, located at the former Ravenscraig steelworks, will aim to showcase and influence the future of the Scottish housing industry.

It is hoped construction will start next year and finish in 2010.

BRE wants construction firms to express an interest by 26 June.

The first phase of the project will include four show homes and a technology pavilion that would be used as a source of training and information by the industry.

BRE Scotland said it hoped to channel more than £2m of new technology investment into the project and build on lessons learned at its first innovation part in Watford.

BRE Scotland director Rufus Logan said he hoped the park would challenge companies to develop solutions to climate change issues.

He said: “We also want to highlight the innovative work already going on in Scottish construction.”
