Swathe of job cuts expected at Galliford Try's housebuilding division

Galliford Try's entire housebuilding division faces a swathe of job cuts as the business as a whole undergoes a 30-day consultation.

The news follows reports last week on ContractJournal.com that Linden Homes, which is now owned by Galliford Try, was planning to close its Thames Valley regional office, where 62 people currently work.

Meanwhile reports have emerged in the Peterborough Evening Telegraph that 43 people could be made redundant at Peterborough-based Stamford Homes, where 117 people work. Stamford is also owned by Galliford Try

Galliford Try has previously stated that it is not planning to close any regional offices other than Linden's Thames Valley branch, but a spokeswoman admitted today that company-wide job losses were expected.

She would not be drawn on how many posts will be made redundant in total.

In a statement, Ian Baker, managing director of Galliford Try Homes, said:

"The housing market is going through extremely challenging times and Galliford Try is having to take a number of measures to align its housebuilding business to reflect the reduced level of demand for its homes.  We are very disappointed that this will result in some redundancies throughout our housebuilding division.

"Galliford Try is confident that in the longer term the demand for homes will return, and the underlying strengths of the Company will allow it to resume its growth."
