New guidance on Lifting Operations in Construction When Using Excavators has been published.
Rather than creating new rules and regulations, the publication is designed to clarify the existing advice in areas such as check valves and the position of rated capacity indicators under LOLER.
It lays out the hazards, and outlines the planning, training and pre-use checks required before the lift, along with excavator requirements and thorough examination procedures.
The content has been agreed by the Construction Confederation, the Construction Equipment Association, the Construction Plant-hire Association and the Health & Safety Executive.
Copies can be obtained from all the association's websites and will be available from the Health & Safety Executive in the near future.
