Manchester boss Bernstein quits Olympic board

Sir Howard Bernstein has resigned from the board of the Olympic Delivery Authority to regenerate seaside Blackpool.

The Manchester City Council chief executive has quit his position overseeing the construction of the major venues to take on role of chairman at Blackpool regeneration company ReBlackpool.

Announcing his resignation, he said he would not have enough time to do both.

Mr Bernstein had been one of 12 board members charged with shaping the construction of the Olympics since 2006.

He said the main focus of his work would continue to be in Manchester, but that the Blackpool project fit better with his background.
