Balfour Beatty in £300m Malaysian rail deal

Balfour Beatty Rail has bagged a £300m deal in a joint venture with a Malaysian firm to provide rail electrification and power supply systems to a rail extension in Malaysia.

The company announced that it had received a letter of acceptance inviting it to take part in the Ipoh to Padang Besar Double Tracking Rail Extension this morning.

The win is worth £160m to Balfour Beatty Rail.

The job involves the design, supply and installation of electrification, power supply, signalling and communications on 330km of track in conjunction with Ansaldo STS.

The project is due for completion in January 2013.
