Interserve wins £55m-worth of Welsh health work

By John Leitch

Interserve has been awarded two contracts in Wales worth a total of £55 million.

They are both projects in the health sector: a £45m development of the Children's Hospital for Wales (for the Cardiff and Vale NHS Trust), and the design and construction of a Primary Care Centre at Baglan, Port Talbot (for Haven Health Properties).

The restricted nature of the site in Cardiff dictates that the project work will be carried out in two phases. Enabling works are expected to get under way in March 2009, with completion likely to be some time in 2012.

The latest award is the ninth to have gone Interserve’s way in its Designed for Life: Building for Wales framework agreement set up by Welsh Health Estates.

It began July 2006 and is scheduled to run for four years with a further two-year option.

As a Supply Chain Partner Interserve undertakes design, healthcare planning, cost consultancy, services installation, construction design and management co-ordination, professional services consultancy and construction.

The Primary Care Resource Centre at project is scheduled to be completed in August 2009.

Adrian Ringrose, Interserve's chief executive, said: “We believe these facilities will make a real difference to families in Wales.”
