Three firms have been lined up to carry out £25m-worth of revamp work at the NEC Arena in Birmingham.
Balfour Beatty, Ibex and local outfit GF Tomlinson have signed up to the two-year framework deal.
The first shovel is expected to hit the ground in November on a scheme that has been divided into five packages.
The prize deal will be the refurbishment of the arena, valued at £14m, which includes a reconfigured seating system and demolition works.
The other packages feature internal fit-out of the forum, revamping back of house facilities, enabling works and landscaping.
The three contractors will have to compete for packages of work through a mini-tender exercise.
