Accident rates among memebers of the Civil Engineering Contractors Assocation (CECA) fell 20% last year - the third successive annual drop.
CECA's Accident Statistics Report for 2007 showed that accident rates have fallen 37% since 2004.
The incidence rate of major and fatal injuries was 175 per 100,000 workers, 35 fewer than in the 2006 report.
Meanwhile the incidence rate of over 3-day injuries was 410 per 100,000 workers - a fall of 109 compared to the previous year
The association collects data in accordance with its Health and Safety Strategy and Action Plan to give an impression of accident rates in the civil engineering sector.
CECA technical and environmental officer John Wilson commented: "Although the continued reduction in accidents in the civil engineering sector is encouraging, there is no room for complacency."
