Chinese stadium damaged by fire - PHOTO

Fire has broken out at an indoor stadium being built for the 2009 China National Games in Jinan, China.

The blaze lasted for around five hours before it was extinguished by firefighters and rainfall.

The state media agency Xinhua reported that there were no casualties, although a quarter of the roof has been destroyed.

It is thought that the fire started when welding equipment set light to insulation material.

The China National Games is one of the world's biggest sporting events, with around 10,000 athletes taking part every four years.
