Skanska has beaten off three rivals to scoop a £120m top-secret deal to redevelop an RAF base in East Anglia.
The Ministry of Defence has named the firm as its preferred bidder for the RAF Wyton project in Cambridgeshire - part of the Defence Intelligence Modernisation Programme. The prime contract involves both construction and design work.
Skanska will now work with the client and key members of the supply chain to develop the scheme and a formal award is expected at the end of this year.
Work on site is likely to begin early next year, with completion set for 2011.
The project, which comes under the umbrella of the Official Secrets Act, includes new build, refurbished and extended office accommodation, sports facilities, plus infrastructure and demolition projects.
The other combatants were Amec Design & Projects, Carillion Defence, and Debut Services - a division of Bovis Lend Lease.
