By Neil Gerrard

A consortium of Interserve and John Laing has won a £310m PFI contract to build and manage a new office and accommodation complex for the Ministry of Defence (MoD).

The MoD plans to create a "communication centre of excellence" at Corsham, Wiltshire, capable of supporting an estimated 2,200 military and civilian staff.

Interserve said it would work alongside Laing O'Rourke during the construction of the offices and will provide a range of facilities management services worth £194m over the 25-year operational phase.

Construction will begin immediately and is expected to be complete by 2011. Interserve and John Laing will each invest £7m in the project.
