Birse gets green light for Alderley bypass

By Brian Warner

Cheshire County Council is drafting a letter of intent to Birse Civils for the lion's share of a scheme totalling £30m, now that the government has finally stumped up the necessary funding.

Work on the 5.3km Alderley bypass on the A34 is due to start in January for completion in spring 2011.

And Birse Rail will construct an estimated £5m rail bridge, which also figures in the project but is being procured separately by Network Rail.
