HBG, Taywood, Kier and Norwest chase £40m Brum schools deal

By Brian Warner

Four rivals are swotting up for a £40m education-sector deal in the West Midlands.

The line-up for the redevelopment of Sutton Coldfield College is HBG, Taylor Woodrow, Kier Build and Norwest Holst.

The plan is to award the contract in October this year, with a start on site being made early in 2009.

The new college is expected to be open for business by the third quarter of 2010.

The present further education college is spread over several sites and the deal is to rationalise facilities onto the New Riverside campus in Great Barr, Birmingham.

The scheme will go down the two-stage tender, design and build route, and will include teaching accommodation, offices and external works.
