Days are numbered for non-regulated scaffolding companies, according to industry body the National Access and Scaffolding Confederation (NASC).
The group has seen a rise in scaffolding firms joining its ranks, with 21 firms joining so far in 2008 – compared to 17 in 2007.
The confederation, which conducts a strict audit of its members, has expelled two firms in recent months for failing to meet its standards.
NASC managing director Robin James said membership now accounted for 75% of the scaffolding industry.
He said: “We are not lowering our standards – the scaffolding industry is rising to meet them and that can only be good news for everyone.
“The signs couldn’t be more clear – the construction industry is no longer willing to tolerate non-regulated scaffolding companies.”
