Amey has been awarded the Highways Agency’s South East TechMac.
Running for five years, the project has an annual value of £20m. Amey expects to start in just over a month, on 29 September.
Amey will partner with the HA to provide the design, management and maintenance services of the technology assets on the major roads network in the South East of England.
Included in the deal are the southern sections of the M25, M3, M27, M23, M2, M20 and major trunk roads.
The technology assets include emergency telephones, CCTV, message signs and signals, ramp metering equipment, and for the first time in a TechMac, traffic signals.
Amey will adopt a ‘virtual ownership’ approach in developing and managing the assets to ensure their health over the life of the contract.
Mel Ewell, chief executive of Amey, said: “This represents a real breakthrough in the extension of the range of engineering consultancy services Amey now provides to the Highways Agency.”
Amey’s contract calls for the use of a combination of its consulting and operational capabilities.
