Standards raised for green roofs

By Roxanne Millar

Green roofs will soon be subject to strict standards to improve the quality of those being built.

A newly-formed green roof advisory board has pledged to develop a standard within the next 12 months that will preach "quality not quantity".

Green roofs are increasingly becoming a requirement on new buildings by local authorities, but there are no British standards governing their installation.

Most roof suppliers use German standards, but the board hopes to marry these with Austrian and Swiss standards to come up with a local version.
