Steven Gerrard in the doghouse over £350K backyard gym

Liverpool footballer Steven Gerrard is in the doghouse for building a £350,000 gym in his backyard that is so big it has its own postcode.

The midfielder’s neighbours say the glass and copper building is out of keeping with local housing and is the only building in the area with a flat roof.

The structure is so big it has a separate billing address from the £2m home of the footballer in the Merseyside suburb of Freshfield, according to the Daily Telegraph.

Gerrard was given planning permission to proceed with the DK Architects-designed gym by the local council in December 2006 despite objections.

Neighbour Cecil Crossley told the newspaper: “I cannot begin to understand why anyone would want to build an eyesore like this in their back garden.

“It is not in keeping with the properties in this area. It’s like building an Asda supermarket in the middle of a beauty spot but our objections were ignored.”
