Creagh Concrete Products to axe 90 staff

Ireland’s Creagh Concrete Products has announced plans to axe 90 of its staff around the UK.

The jobs cuts are expected across its branches in Ardboe, County Tyrone and Scotland and England.

The company, which has 500 staff, told the BBC it took the action because its order books had contracted.

It produces precast slabs, pre-mixed concrete, aggregate and building blocks.

The company said: “We have decided to give notice of the commencement of employee consultations with a view to the potential lay off of 90 of our staff and employees from across the company, including our operations in England and Scotland.

“The decision has been given much consideration over recent months and regrettably we have no alternative.”
