The National Indoor Sports Arena and Velodrome will be the major indoor sports venue for Scotland capable of staging World, Commonwealth, European and National sporting events as well as providing a major stimulus for sports participation in the East End of Glasgow as a local community sports centre and a city, regional and national training centre for a range of sports.
The project, part of sportscotland’s National and Regional sports facilities programme, is pivotal to Glasgow and Scotland’s plans for the 2014 Commonwealth Games providing competition venues for track cycling and badminton.
Prior to the commencement of the formal construction works contract procurement process, Glasgow City Council invites all interested parties, primarily companies from the construction sector, to attend an information session, which is being held to assist in informing the process, on the procurement and delivery of the construction works contract for the National Indoor Sports Arena and Velodrome.
An Advance Works contract is currently on site which consists of the site preparatory earthworks, grouting of mine workings, remediation of contaminated land and installation of drainage infrastructure.
The construction works contract will consist of the construction of an indoor arena with a 200m hydraulic athletics track capable of housing 5,000 spectators; an indoor
velodrome with a 250m banked timber track capable of housing 2,500 spectators with 2,000 seated; a central “hub” over four floors providing changing accommodation, main entrance concourse, ancillary sports and fitness accommodation and offices; and public realm external works.
Interested parties with relevant experience are invited to register for the informal briefing sessions that will be held in central Glasgow on Tuesday 26 August 2008 at 10:15 and 11:30am. Each session is scheduled for approximately one hour.
Opportunities are also available for companies to have one-to-one discussions with the project delivery team on Thursday 28 and Friday 29 August 2008 in central Glasgow. Each session is scheduled for approximately one hour.
