HAE unveils apprentice scheme

A new apprenticeship scheme for hire desk operatives has been launched by the Hire Association Europe (HAE).

The new scheme comes in response to long-standing industry concerns about skills shortages and the absence of structured training available for those working in the industry.

It will lead to an NVQ Level 2 and incorporates product training for a variety of tools including breakers and drills, diamond cutting and drilling, cutting, grinding and abrasive wheels, concrete equipment and scaffold towers.

The 24-month programme is available initially through Myerscough College in Preston and according to the HAE, the response has so far been very positive. If demand is sufficient, the association also hopes it will be able to expand the offering through other training providers across the country.

The scheme also meets the criteria for access to a training grant from the CITB.
