£600m gas plant scheme will create 650 construction jobs

Around 650 construction jobs will be created with the construction of a £600m gas power station in Lanarkshire.

Welsh Power will run the 850MW power plant at Hillhouse International Business Park at Thornton Cleveleys Lanarkshire when it comes online in 2012.

A date to commence construction has not been set as owners NPL Estates are yet to receive government approval.

The firm will now consult with surrounding residents and businesses before making a formal application to build the plant.

NPL managing director Simon Towers told the BBC: “The ability to generate power at Hillhouse will help us to attract more large manufacturing and process companies, joining with those already on site and thereby securing sold employment for the future, bringing more prosperity to Wyre and adding to the vibrant business community which we have helped create.”
