Miller closes in on Isle of Wight education deal

By Brian Warner

Miller looks to have done its homework on a £50m education sector scheme on the Isle of Wight.

Sources say that the firm has emerged as preferred contractor for the Isle of Wight Further Education College redevelopment job. This means that rival pitches from HBG and Geoffrey Osborne have now been expelled.

Work on site is due to begin during June 2009 and is expected to take around 30 months to complete.

As usual for projects of this kind, the contract is going down the two-stage design-and-build route.

The scheme centres on providing around 22,000m2 of new accommodation at the Medina Way campus and then demolishing redundant buildings on site.
