Carillion and Babcock win £3bn MoD contract

By Neil Gerrard

Carillion and Babcock have landed a £3bn contract to provide training, training support, infrastructure and services to the Royal School of Military Engineering (RSME) over 30 years.

The joint venture, called Holdfast, will deliver £300m of capital works for new and refurbished soldier accommodation, as well as more efficient use of the training estate, lower running costs and improved facilities.

The contract is also expected to free up 300 military personnel to return to the Field Army from its Training Division.

Babcock will begin delivering services starting in January 2009.

Carillion chief executive John McDonough commented: "We look forward to delivering improved facilities to meet the existing and future training requirements of the RSME. This builds on the excellent relationship we have developed with the MoD across a range of contracts, the largest of which is the £12 billion Allenby Connaught Public Private Partnership project.”
