Denmark is to finance and own a £3.5bn bridge that will link the country with Germany across the Baltic Sea's Fehmarn Strait.

The planned toll bridge will comprise a four-lane road and two-track railway, the Guardian reported.

Work is set to start in 2012 with a completion date of 2018.
