Anger in Exeter after Carillion turfs footballers off pitch

Carillion has enraged a group of footballers in Exeter after forcing them to leave the football pitch they have used for 25 years.

The Wednesday Priory Sports Club used to meet weekly for a five-a-side game at Isca College. But the club's players have been told by Carillion they must now use another pitch at West Exe, according to the Exeter Express & Echo.

It is the third time the footballers have been moved since Carillion took over the running of the college as part of a PFI deal it signed in 2004.

"Carillion are really messing us about," said Alan Dixon, a club member. "After close questioning by us it came out they had double-booked."

Another member, Eric Henley, said: "We think we are being badly treated and we want answers from Carillion."

Dick Wood, a spokesman for Carillion, said: "In May, our extended use team booked Exeter City FC into Isca for four nights each week. This obviously affected single bookings and most of the other groups have been switched to other sites.

"The team will have further dialogue with Wednesday Priory to find them an alternative to West Exe."
