Bricklayer suspended after hiding Rangers shirts in Catholic church

An Inverness bricklayer has been suspended by his employers after burying two Glasgow Rangers FC shirts in a Catholic church during building work.

A shirt was found behind the main altar, and another was hidden in a wall.

The bricklayer was employed by contractors UBS Group, who were working on the new build St Columbia's Church in Culloden.

Father James Bell, parish priest, said: "I think it has to be seen as a prank. The Catholic Church is very tolerant and broadminded and we all smiled at it.

"I do not know the gentleman who did it but it has backfired on him in some respects."
