A Scottish Duke is under fire after buying a block of land given to a community in perpetuity more than 100 years ago, stopping plans for a green village.
Richard Scott, the tenth Duke of Buccleuch, has bought the Seal-Hayne agricultural college site near Newton Abbot, Devon and is planning to build 1,200 homes.
The community say the land should have been saved for their use and that they had been planning an eco-campus and green village on the site.
According to the Scotsman, it is believed the Duke’s development company paid more than £10m for the site.
