Olympic venues at risk as Polish workers go home

Olympic officials will spend £20m improving the skills of British workers to fill gaps left by Polish builders and electricians heading home.

The Olympic Delivery Authority, London Development Agency (LDA) and other partner organisations will spend the money on a fast-track training scheme to teach Brits basic construction skills.

According to the Times, officials fear Olympic venues could be at risk because skilled Polish workers are heading home and are not being replaced with qualified locals.

It reported the Electrical Contractors Association and LDA will fund training for 1,500 electricians who will work on the Olympic village.

And an extra 140 people in London will also receive training under a separate project, while another 4,000 training places over four years will also be provided.
