Edmund Nuttall has won the contract to build one of the largest new parks in Europe in 150 years at London’s Olympic Park.
The firm will manage the delivery of the northern section of parklands on the 2012 site, procuring specialist subcontractors through a series of packages.
Work on the 40 ha park will begin in spring 2009, with the first package to be tendered to be for trees and plants required at the park.
Designers Hargreaves Associates is expected to submit a planning application next month.
As part of the job Edmund Nuttall will be responsible for hard and soft landscape works, construction of a concourse to link all venues, creation of wetland and wildlife habitats, permanent park furniture, lighting, irrigation and drainage.
A contract for the landscaping of the south park is due later this year.
Olympic Delivery Authority parklands and public realm boss John Hopkins said: “The project is on track and we will be working with our contractor to quickly roll out the process of buying the tree and plant packages for the whole of the park.”
