A woman is in hospital after being hit by an object falling from a tower crane in Waterloo, a few miles away from where the Battersea Crane Disaster Action Group was commemorating the second anniversary of that fatal accident.

The woman was hit by an object believed to be an air conditioning unit that fell from a luffing jib tower crane and landed on the pavement beside a bus stop.

It is currently unclear if the crane’s jib protruded beyond the site boundary and if so why.

The London Ambulance Service was called to the scene shortly after 9.00am this morning.

It dispatched the air ambulance, a motorcycle responder and a road ambulance to the scene and later moved a female patient to Kings College Hospital.

She suffered non life-threatening injuries to her head, arm and leg.
