Skerrit turnover jumps by two-thirds, profit doubles

A five-year plan drawn up by the management at Skerritt to double workload is on course with turnover up by two thirds.

The Nottingham-based maintenance contractor, which also has a Birmingham office, lifted turnover by £18.1m to £46.1m in 2007 and this helped double pre-tax profits to £2.2m.

Managing director Stuart Hill said: “In 2006, we embarked on a five-year plan to double the size of the business.

“We aimed to do that by becoming the preferred contractor to a select group of major developers and construction companies. That’s exactly what we’ve done and one year into the plan, we are way ahead of target and in a really strong position to weather the slowdown in the economy.”

At an operating level, profits surged even faster to just over £2m from £942,314 in the previous year.

Skerritt, which was founded in 1899 by Frank Skerritt, has 300 staff.
