A standard for waste handling is being developed in Wales in conjunction with the British Standards Institute.
Constructing Excellence in Wales (CEW) hopes to have the standard ‘Green Compass’ running on a pilot basis by next year, and has scored £1.5m in funding from the Welsh government to develop it.
Designed as a benchmark for waste handlers, the standard will provide the industry with the mechanism for independent data validation.
Before its launch, it will be subject to a public consultation and a pilot programme involving 10 firms.
CEW chief executive Milica Kitson said: “The aim is that the Green Compass logo will be seen on liveries, skips and vehicles of all responsible waste contractors in Wales.
“The Green Compass logo will be a strong brand that will demonstrate a participating company’s commitment to quality based on more environmental credentials and is, therefore, a beneficial business tool.”
