More stock market woe for housebuilders

Another stormy session on the Stock Exchange this morning (Friday) saw housebuilders’ share prices take another battering while contractor’s shares took less of a pounding, moving in relatively calmer waters.

At noon, the big-names housebuilders whose share prices had been on the slide included:

  • -18.0% Barratt
  • - 9.5% Persimmon
  • - 7.6% Taylor Wimpey
  • - 4.2% Berkeley
  •  - 3.6 Redrow

The two large hybrid group who operate with both a housebuilding and a construction wing were ranked:

  • -5.7% Galliford Try
  • no change Kier

Construction and support services:

  • - 4.9% Carillion
  • - 3.4% Interserve
  • - 2.3% Balfour Beatty

Plant hire sector:

  • -8.2% SpeedyHire
  • - 3.1% Ashtead

Builders’ merchants:

  • -11.6% Travis Perkins
  • - 7.0% Wolseley
