Share price surge for contractors and house builders

Early morning trading (Monday) on the London Stock Exchange has had the biggest benefit on Barratt as the housebuilder’s share price jumped by 10.2% within the space of two hours.

The big guns amongst the housebuilders met with varying fortunes as share price changes this morning show:

• +10.2% Barratt
• +6.4% Bellway
• +4.4% Persimmon
• No change Taylor Wimpey

The hybrids were back in favour, though in somewhat muted fashion:

• +4.7% Kier
• +1.2% Galliford Try

The best of the construction groups enjoyed a warmer welcome:

• + 6.5% Costain
• + 5.8% Balfour Beatty
• +5.0% Morgan Sindall
• +3.1% Carillion
