MPs call for tariff to boost small-scale renewable energy

By Neil Gerrard

A group of 74 MPs is urging the government to adopt a 'feed-in' tariff to help more individuals, communities, local government and businesses start generating their own sustainable energy.

The MPs have all signed up to an Early Day Motion which calls on the government to amend the Energy Bill and introduce the renewable energy tariff within 12 months.

The 'feed-in' tariff would allow property owners who generated their own electricity to sell surplus energy back to electricity suppliers.
