Engineering services firm Mitie has been fined £300,000 for the fatal electrocution of one is its workers in 2005.

Electrician Michael Adamson, 26, was killed after coming into contact with a live cable he was working on. The incident occurred on the construction site of a JJB Fitness Centre on Gallagher Retail Park in Dundee.

Mitie was found guilty of breaching the Health and Safety at Work Act, but managing director William Mitchell, operations director Scott Wallace, and project manager Ian Storrar, were cleared of neglect over Adamson's death.

Dundee Sheriff Court heard that the cable Adamson was working on had been labelled 'not in use' - even though it was live.

HSE principal inspector Jim Skilling said the electrician had not been given the necessary test equipment to prove the cable was dead.
