The government’s proposed eco-towns threaten the country’s wildlife and landscape, the Campaign to Protect Rural England (CPRE) has claimed.
The group has accused the government of ignoring its independent adviser, Natural England, on a range of environmental issues to push the towns through.
CPRE rural policy boss Tom Oliver told the Daily Telegraph: “Its approach to eco-towns is part of the malaise in the government’s approach to planning.
“Our view is: good idea, bad way of going about it.”
The group also claimed that the environmental standards of eco-towns would not be high enough to impact the environment.
