Stikk keeps an 'i' on hand-arm vibration levels

Vibration management specialist PDS Aros has launched Stikk-i, a device that monitors the hand-arm vibration dose received by workers operating power tools.

The tool's vibration level is programmed into a battery-powered device, which fits in a pocket on the tool to record trigger time and calculate the vibration the operator has received.

At the start of the day, the display is green but will turn amber as trigger time mounts and the vibration limit is approached. Once the limit is reached, a red light shows to indicate that the operator must stop using the tool.

At the end of the day, the Stikk-i is momentarily inserted into a docking station to re-set to zero. Total running hours remain in the system to indicate when the tool requires servicing.

The British designed and built device costs between £20 and £25 and will last for up to four months when in daily use.

Other versions of the device are expected to indicate whole-body vibration and to be incorporated into gloves for those operating a number of tools.
