Grand Designs presenter under fire over eco-village

Grand Designs presenter Kevin McLeod has been accused of destroying a 70-year-old beauty spot with his plans to build an eco-village.

Residents in Swindon, Wiltshire, fear a field will be used as an access road to the site, where McLeod wants to build 200 environmentally-friendly homes.

The locals claim their deeds state the field should “at all times be kept as open space, public walks and pleasure land”, reported the Daily Telegraph.

McLeod’s company Happiness, Architecture and Beauty has not submitted a formal planning application for the site yet.

The local council said once a formal application had been made, residents would be able to comment on the proposal.

Until then, the council said there would also be a consultation with residents.
