The last heavy fabrication yard in Scotland is planning a major expansion within the country to boost its’ presence in worldwide renewables markets.
Burntisland Fabrications will expand its’ yards at Burntisland and Methil where it produces platform decks and other support structures for the offshore oil and gas industry.
It also has plans to expand to Germany to become a major player in offshore wind farms and wave and tidal energy projects.
The firm’s managing director John Robertson told the Scotsman the renewables sector had growth opportunities for the next five to 10 years.
“We are in final discussions regarding major expansion plans at our facilities in Scotland and now the setting up of new overseas manufacturing facilities in Germany,” he said.
The company employs 250 people.
